The cost of living crisis is something that is impacting many of us. We are all seeing an increase in our energy bills and fuel and food have both risen exponentially too. It seems like there is no end in sight and many of us are worried about how we are going to heat our homes and put food on the table later on in the year.
Recent news has seen that the energy price cap is going to increase even more by October and this is news that I definitely did not want to hear – I bet the same could be said for you!
But do you know what appliances are the most expensive to run each month?
Some appliances we have to keep plugged in and on all the time but if we can save a little bit of money by not using some as often as we usually do, that’s a bit of cash back in our pocket, right?
MoneyTransfers.com recently conducted some research into this topic and found out the top 10 most expensive appliances to run each month.
Air Conditioners
With the weather heating up in recent days, you’d be forgiven for putting on your air conditioner if you have one. But these are by far the most expensive appliance to run each month. It actually costs more per month to run the air conditioner than the nine other appliances on the list combined.
It is so tempting especially during the hot hot weather to use this but maybe consider utilising a fan or something else instead – save yourself some electric!
Tumble Dryer
Perhaps not that unexpected as we have all been told many times that tumble dryers cost quite a bit to run. However these definitely make the top ten. Now that the weather is nicer, it is worth making use of the sunshine to dry clothes instead of relying on something so expensive.
Kettles
How often do you make yourself a cup of tea or coffee? Whilst it isn’t in the top 5, kettles do reach number sixth on the list if being boiled for 15 minutes per day, every day.
Do you want to reduce your energy consumption? Then it can be dramatically cut down by switching them off at the plug – although this is not possible for certain appliances. Recent research conducted by Loop found that the average household could save £140 on their energy bills if they simply turned off appliances at the switch!
