Everyone has heard of Greta Thunberg, right? When offered the chance to review this book, I thought I should definitely give it a go. I have been reading a lot of non-fiction recently and what Greta Thunberg stands for is very important indeed.
About The Book
An inspirational story about parenting a family’s journey from crisis to coping, written largely by Greta Thunberg’s mother, Malena Ernman, with input from the whole family. The writing is astonishingly direct and intense, mirroring the love and determination that is pulling them through.
Highlights from outstanding Readers’ Comments on Amazon
It resonates so much already for me and my family.
Open and honest… The embarrassing moments sit along with the heartbreaking ones
I was engrossed … there’s so much in this book to think about
It is humbling to see how people with very severe mental issues can contribute so enormously to a better world.
Hugely interesting from a parental perspective
I found myself reacting quite strongly to certain incidents, certain decisions, but then books should make us think and question our assumptions – well worth reading
This should be a national curriculum text book.
All proceeds from this book will go to Greenpeace, the World Wildlife Fund and other non-profit organisations through a foundation set up by the family. You can buy the book on Amazon here {affiliate link}.

My Review
It has hard to properly put into words what I think about this book. The message that they have to share about climate change is incredibly important and needs to be discussed. However it is much more than a book about that topic.
Given the names of all members of the family feature on the cover as authors, I was expecting more input from all of them, especially Greta herself, but it is her mother who speaks throughout. I did find the constant references to her career a little tedious after the third or fourth time – we know what she does and why people know her, it doesn’t need to be rehashed over and over.
It gave an insight into Greta and her family that many people do not see – the newspapers have told about Greta but there is so much more to her and to her family too. The struggles they have gone through to get a diagnosis for both children has been difficult and must have been so exhausting for them as parents. However they have to be commended for encouraging Greta to stand by her beliefs and convictions and do what she has to do in the hope of saving the planet.
The way Greta sees climate change and the solution to it is so simplistic and makes total sense yet no one seems to listen to her or take notice of her until she takes a stand and strikes from school. Finally people start to listen to her! Yet we know she has a long way to go.
Overall, this was a really interesting read – not only about climate change but a look into the family too. However I think it could have done well with Greta’s mum not talking about her job as much as she did as most of the time it did not have a bearing on the overall theme of the book.
Have you read this book before?

Sounds like an incredible book and was expecting more input from Greta too but still a good book.
I have read a similar review of this book and decided it wasn’t for me, although I have great respect for Greta Thunberg.
Although I know who Greta is I don’t know much about her world so this would be a really interesting book to find out more x
I do love Greta and am curious about her and her family as I don’t think enough is shared about her in the media. I would love to get my hands on a copy of this book to read more about her family and about climate change
I didn’t know that they wrote a book together! I read Greta’s manifesto and it was truly inspiring! I will add this to my reading list, thanks for sharing x
