What To Include In Your Media Kit

Collaborative Post

As a blogger, you may want the opportunity to work with brands. This won’t happen straight away – you need to build up an audience first and have an archive of at least a few posts before you can expect brands to even consider working with you. However, once you have done all this and brands seem interested, where do you go from there?

A great way to show a brand what you have to offer is a media. What is a media kit, I hear you ask? Simply put, a media kit tells a brand about you, tells them exactly what they need to know regarding your site and your audience. Some people keeps theirs quite basic whilst others go into a lot of detail. It is important that the media kit reflects you so make it as brief or as detailed as you see fit.

You can create your own media kit or even use one of these handy templates to get it looking exactly how you want it to. But what exactly do you need to include?

Your Name

It sounds silly but don’t forget to put your name on your media kit. I’ve lost count of how many times I received emails directed to Futures before I had a media kit – even though my name is easy to see in my sidebar!

Your Email

Companies need a way to get into contact with you. If it isn’t on your media kit or easy to find on your site, then companies won’t go digging for it. They will just find someone else who suits their needs.

About Section

Keep this quite brief but give the brands a little information about you and your site and what you have to offer them.

Stats & Demographics

A great way to showcase what you can offer a brand is by showing them your stats and demographics. People tend to update their media kits monthly with their previous months stats or they use an average of the last three months. This may include pageviews or sessions for their site, reach for social medias.

Demographics are also helpful – it is handy to know if the site they are considering using actually has the audience they are looking to target. If it hasn’t got that particular audience, you might not be the right fit so including this information is always helpful.

Social Media Information

Be sure to add social media usernames with followings and reach if you can. Often brands will want to not only purchase a post on your site but also promote it via social media if you have a following they are interested in.

Brand Collaborations

If you have worked with brands in the past, consider including a couple of them on your media kit to give interested companies an idea of who you have worked with and what you offered them.

Rates

Finally, and one that not everyone includes on theirs, is rates. Having a ballpark figure for a brand makes it a lot easier for them to work out if they want to work with you. Some people don’t like putting their rates on their media kits and that is their prerogative. However I like to include rates on mine – detailing the different services I offer and how much it is, as well as any discounts for bulk buying. For instance, I have a set fee for buying an ad in my sidebar for a month. However if people buy a 6 month placement or a 12 month placement, they receive a slight discount.

I would love to start my own blog and it’s something I’ve been meaning to do for quite some time now. Thanks for the great tips.

I have a media kit, but I always forget to update it when my DA and social stats change, oops. Although I’m rarely asked for it to be honest. Although it’s very useful to have if you’re personally pitching to brands x

  3. Mine definitely needs updating especially with stats and figures, I used to do it every month but I’ve slacked recently x
