Collaborative Post
I mentioned this a couple of days ago – I turned thirty last week. It is a big birthday, of course, and I was considering having a big party to celebrate but left it far too late to arrange anything. However my birthday isn’t the only one which is a ‘big’ birthday this year in my family or my friends!
In just eight days time, my mum turns 60. She was also going to have a party and then we decided perhaps we would do a joint one – but again, left it too late. We are considering perhaps doing it later on in the year when the weather is nicer. I’ve also got cousins turning 40 and 50, an aunt turning 80 and many more. We do seem to like the zero years in our family!
So if we do have a party in the summer, what sort of things do we want?
Music
Of course we are going to want music – what is a party without music? We would probably opt for a DJ who does everything for us rather than trying to do it all ourselves – we went to a wedding reception once where the groom spent the entire time doing the music himself and spending barely any time with the bride!
Other Entertainment
I think a party always needs a little more entertainment than just music. It can be a table where someone is doing magic or beauty treatments – it doesn’t need to be fancy but adds something a little extra to a celebration. Something I’ve been considering for a party – or even my wedding reception when I finally get married – is a 360 Photo Booth. It is the latest craze in photo booths – you stand on a platform whilst the camera does a full loop and records a video in slow motion from a low angle. This creates a Boomerang style effect. I just know this would go down a treat with my friends so I’d love something like this to add something a little extra to my party.
Delicious Food
Every party needs delicious food and we are very lucky to have some fantastic eateries in our local area. I know exactly where to go for tasty food that my family and friends will enjoy – and also where to go to get a tasty birthday cake for the celebration! A party just isn’t a party without a decent selection of food!
Of course the biggest thing is the actual location of the event. I have quite a large family who would all expect an invite and I will want to invite my friends too. A large hall such as the local village hall or parish centre would be perfect for this as there is plenty of space for guests, entertainment and food.
We’ve got plenty of celebrating to do this year – and it is going to be a lot of fun! I’m sure that my friends and family with big birthdays coming up in 2020 will also be having celebrations and I can’t wait! What a fun year we have ahead.
Do you have a big birthday this year?

Looks really fun. You are only as old as you feel.
We have a year of big birthdays next year and I am dreading being 40 haha and dreading the cost of the whole year as there are lots but you can only celebrate them once and you only live once so I better get saving!
