Hatching Dragons Toothless | Review

Are your kids fans of How To Train Your Dragon? My kids are – and they absolutely love Toothless. We were recently given the opportunity to review a hatching Toothless and I couldn’t wait to see what the kids thought. We’ve previously reviewed other hatching toys such as this Hatchimal Surprise so I knew they’d be very excited.

What could be better than hatching and training your very own Toothless? Not only can you teach him to play games but he can also plasma blast too!

The toy is packaged well – the box is pretty deceiving as you’d be inclined to think it’s the actual egg in the packaging but it’s simply plastic and the egg is packaged securely within some plastic inside as well as an instruction guide and fish accessory. To start the hatching process, you need to remove the toggles on the bottom and then rub and tap the egg to get Toothless to hatch out.

The egg is large and you will start to hear the dragon making sounds inside the egg as you encourage him to hatch out. At times, the kids left him along for too long and he’d fall asleep so you’d need to hold the bottom of the egg and tap to wake him back up. He might even tap up!

It took around ten to fifteen minutes for Toothless to fully hatch – once the egg had cracked, it was pretty fast before there was a big enough space for the kids to remove some of the shell and free Toothless. They helped to hatch him quicker by agitating him by shaking and tilting the egg. You can see his eyes light up through the egg shell and he makes plenty of sounds!

Once Toothless had hatched, it was time to get to know our dragon and train him.  You can teach him to fly and plasma blast whilst he moves his ears and flaps his wings to fly. To charge his plasma blast, you simply need to hold his belly and release!

The kids have had plenty of fun training their Toothless and playing games with him. Not only can you do all of the above activities but you can feed him with the fish accessory included. You can ask him questions and he will respond. The kids have especially loved having roaring competitions with him! If you want him to fall asleep at the end of a long day, just place him back into the egg for a nap.

Toothless has made a great addition to our house. This is a toy that just keeps on giving. Whilst you might think the initial excitement wears off after hatching, in fact the fun is only just beginning. My two have loved training him and they have barely put him down.

This toy is for ages 5 and up and requires 2 AA batteries which are included. I bet this will be on many Christmas lists this year.
