If you have been reading my blog for a few years, you will already know that I love Rome. We went there on holiday a while back and had a fantastic time. Our plan is to one day go back. So, I’ve been doing a little research to work out what we missed the first time around, so our next trip there will be even better.
Go to the opera
We are not opera fans. But, I realised the other day that Rome Opera Tickets are not crazy expensive. So, we would be silly not to at least try this art form to see if we liked it while staying in the city.
One of the problems with travel is the fact that everything closes at night. So, it will be nice to have something to do in the evening. I particularly like the idea of attending an outdoor performance at the Baths of Caracalla. From what I have read, it is an exciting way to experience your first opera performance.
Go inside the forum
The last time we went to Italy we did what a lot of tourists do which is to buy a combined Colosseum and Forum tour. Unfortunately, we lost the tour guide partway through, so did not get to go inside The Forum. So, we will likely include a visit there on our must-do list.
Visit the Sistine Chapel
Most tourists spend at least a day in Vatican City. While there, many of them visit the beautiful Sistine Chapel. Our plan is to get up early one day and take the first tour. That gives you a chance to appreciate this special place in a relatively tranquil way.

Getting an overview of the city from Palatine Hill is sounds like it is worth doing. It is a great way to get a feel for where everything is and enjoy a spectacular view.
Visit the Villa Borghese Gardens
Rome was a busy place when we last visited and from the sounds of things it has become even more frenetic. So, we will be scheduling a little time to get away from the crowds for a bit. The gardens of the Borghese Villa are perfect for this.
Learn to cook the Italian way
When we visited Rome, most of the tours and experiences were related to historical sites. But, things have changed quite a bit. Now, a lot of the local residents and businesses have got involved. As a result, there are loads of interesting tours and experiences to enjoy. Some of the food and cooking related ones have caught my eye, for example, learning how to cook a proper Italian pizza from a professional chef. Or, better still to visit the home of an Italian mama to cook Italian favourites with her.
