I believe I did one of these posts in the past and here I am with an update. Jack has so many books but he still loves some of his books from when he was younger. He loves nothing more than having a story read to him but the books below are the ones that capture his attention the most.
First of all I know Christmas is over but Jack still loves Santa’s Reindeer. We picked it up in Poundland a good few years ago and he loves breaking it out at Christmas time. Now that he finally understands Christmas he is reluctant to let the magic go but we’re hoping he will finally realise Christmas is over when my birthday rolls around next week.
Next up is another book he has had quite some time – Black and White! by Bianca Lucas. This was one of Jack’s favourites as a baby and he likes to go back to it every now and again to thumb through it for familiarity.
One of his newer favourites is Harry and the Dinosaurs Say Raahh! by Ian Whybrow. I remember plenty of my favourite books as a child being by Ian Whybrow so I am glad Jack likes him too. We are definitely thinking about getting the rest of the Harry and the Dinosaurs collection – especially whilst Jack is still in his dinosaurs obsessed phase!
Talking about collections..we have nearly all of the Peppa Pig books. These aren’t my favourites to read as they are pretty much word for word from the TV show but Jack doesn’t seem to notice..or even mind if he does. His favourite of the collection at the moment is Peppa Pig: Daddy Pig’s Old Chair. Jack enjoys telling me what is about to happen in the story as we have read this so many times.
Finally, another old favourite and one that is helping me to teach Jack certain words. Whilst much of the book relies on the pictures, there are plenty of words in there too and since Jack knows the story off by heart I am trying to teach him certain words throughout. He is starting to show some acknowledgement of them so hopefully he will be reading really well soon. The book of choice? My Presents by Rod Campbell. This is probably Jack’s favourite book of all and it is well read – we originally bought it from our local library so its nice to know it has been loved and appreciated by so many children.
