As a freelancer, I can work from anywhere. While I spend most of my time sat at my desk at home working, I do carry my work with me when I leave the house and you’ll often catch me sending invoices or emails from coffee shops, checking social media or checking if invoices have been paid. Every freelancer will have their own way of doing things – here are some handy tips for freelance writers you may just need to know!
A day in my life can certainly vary. Some days – like yesterday – can be super quiet whereas days like today I can feel overwhelmed with work as the emails and messages come flooding in. Working for yourself can be a stressful time. You need to make sure you earn enough money to pay the bills on time but sometimes the work just isn’t there and other times your invoices don’t get paid on time and you have to chase them in order to pay your bills on time.
This doesn’t often happen to me but it has occasionally and it can bring so much stress to the table. Since I carry my work outside of the house with me too, I need to make sure my possessions are protected should the worst happen – In My Bag are so handy in this respect, insuring and protecting the devices I carry around with me. My phone has broken before and I had no protection for it and no money to get a new one at the time or get it fixed- it was so hard to keep on top of work without it so I always make sure my possessions are protected now.
A typical day in the life for me usually consists of taking Jack to school then putting Olivia down for a nap whilst I answer some emails and get any work done that needs to be completed that day. It can be tough working around a newborn but somehow you just make it work. When she wakes, I give her the attention she needs but will still answer urgent emails if required. I keep updated whilst collecting Jack from school and then use the evening when they are both asleep to get the majority of my work done. Sometimes I am lucky and can get it all done in the daytime but sometimes the evenings just have to give – and that’s okay. That’s the beauty of working for yourself – you can work whenever, wherever.
I’m not going to lie, working for myself can be stressful but I love it – it gives me so much freedom and I get to spend quality time with my children too. Would you ever consider it?

I love working for myself as well, but also need the security of a wage coming in every month so I fit my blog work in around my days off in my day job and also every evening. I’m so glad when I was on maternity leave last year that I worked really hard on my blog and got it off the ground. I am in awe of freelancers like yourself who work very hard for each penny.
