Whether you are staying in the UK or going abroad, there is no doubt that holidays can be incredibly stressful – especially the time leading up to it and after it when you’re travelling back. I often find myself getting extremely stressed out but I found that by making a few changes to my routine, I can really cut the stress down completely. So what would I suggest?
Be Prepared
If you’re going abroad, make sure all of your important documents are in one place together. This means passports, boarding passes, any important insurance documents or health information you may need. By keeping it all in one place, they are less likely to get lost and cause you stress when standing at check in and can’t find them.
If you’re staying in the UK, pack the car the night before. Don’t leave it all until the morning you go away as you’ll either forget something or keep thinking that you have forgot something. By packing the car the night before, all you need to worry about is unplugging any appliances that you need to, checking everything is secure and then you can lock the door and go. Easy peasy.
Don’t Put It All On Yourself
Plenty of people drive to the airport themselves and park in a long stay car park but this can not only be stressful but expensive too – and on the odd occasion, worrying – we’ve all heard of those horror stories of peoples cars being caught speeding or in an accident when the owners are abroad and they’re meant to be secure in an airport car park. Cutting down that stress by outsourcing the travel may be the way to go.
One such option is to use a taxi and airport transfer service like Capital Cars in Edinburgh, Scotland. They not only offer 24 hour service but also have an app available on Android and iPhone which enables you to book a taxi on the go – so very handy if you’re not sure what time you need them for, you can just open the app and book one for when you need. They also offer 20% discount on metered fares – I would definitely be taking advantage of the discount and app if I lived closer and I think its something companies down here should take notice of!
Keep Positive
Positivity really does wonders. Just because the travel there and back may be stressful doesn’t mean the holiday needs to be so I always like to think about what I plan to get up to on my holiday and keep positive that way. If I have a plan of action for how I am going to enjoy myself on holiday, the stresses that often come with travelling anywhere may still arise but dissipate much faster. I used to be a right negative Nancy when it came to the holiday because the stress had got me down but by telling myself to keep my chin up, I’m able to have a much better time.
