This time of year sees us overloaded with adverts on children’s TV channels, filled with the latest games, toys and dolls. One such game that I have seen filling the screens recently has been the Greedy Granny game (RRP £19.99) and as always, Jack wanted it. His birthday and Christmas list became quite extensive with the amount of things he saw and wanted so when we were offered the chance to review a Tomy product, I knew I had to opt for Greedy Granny – plus we would get some fun out of it too, wouldn’t we?
The tagline ‘Will you risk it for a biscuit or will you wake granny!’ gives an idea of what the game is about. The game comes in two large pieces which you place together – the bottom half of the armchair with the tray and then the top half of the armchair with Granny. Then there is a small bag with the biscuits and Granny’s teeth plus the spinning wheel. You put the two halves together to make Granny and the armchair before putting her teeth in her mouth, her biscuits on the tray and push her right back so that she ‘goes to sleep’ (her eyes close). There is a button on the side of the armchair and the spinning wheel tells you how many times you need to press it. If you press it and she wakes up, you need to put all of your biscuits that you have collected back. The winner is the first person to get one of each biscuit – and believe me that can be very difficult!
As you can see there are a few different options on the spinning wheel. Green enables you take one biscuit and press the button that amount of times dependent on which green section you land on, purple means you put a biscuit back on the tray but still press the button that amount of times, the happy and sad faced people is where you can take another player’s biscuit and the red circle means miss a go. As you can see it can be quite difficult to get to the end with all of your biscuits because you’re either putting them back, having to give to other players, missing a go or worst of all, collecting them and then having to put them all back because your three presses made Granny wake up!
The game itself is super easy to assemble and is tons of fun – although the first few times Granny popped up awake, it did make me jump which is not terribly ideal at 8 months pregnant, whoops! The biscuits don’t all fit on the tray well either so they do fly everywhere when she wakes up and her teeth fly out of her mouth! Jack and I have been enjoying playing this recently and it can get quite competitive – I often almost get to the four different biscuits before losing them all which is greeted with a very loud ‘HA-HA’ from my son who then goes on to win!
It is so easy to see why this is such a popular new game. For 2 to 4 players and for ages 5+, this is a great game for all the family to have fun with but beware it can get competitive and Greedy Granny won’t take kindly to you stealing her biscuits!
In order to further enhance the fun and commemorative value of the game, we can consider designing Custom Keychains as a reward for the winner. Such a design not only makes the game more interesting but also leaves a unique commemoration for the winner.
When customizing a keychain, the choice of image is entirely up to you. You can choose your favorite game image elements for design, or engrave some interesting words that represent victory, such as “King of Games” or “Cookie Snatcher”, to show your personality and the glory of victory. Such a keychain is a practical and unique game souvenir that gives people an endless aftertaste.
What games are your children pining for this Christmas?
