Dear Jack,
You’re now five. Five years of age and you’ve already packed so much into your short amount of time on this Earth. Mummy is a bit late in writing this letter to you as its been such a hectic week – you were poorly last week, got better towards the end, had your friends party on the Saturday then your birthday and party on the Sunday only to come down poorly again. Perils of being in Reception, you seem to catch every bug going.
You amaze me everyday. I’m not going to lie and say there aren’t some times when you frustrate me but I’m sure you feel the same way about me sometimes. You are learning, just making your way in the world, testing boundaries that you don’t quite understand. You’re so sweet, so caring – you wouldn’t hurt a fly and it breaks my heart to ever see you upset like when you mentioned an older child at school being mean. Luckily that was dealt with quickly and you’re much happier now. I know that despite you being a sensitive soul, you’ll stand up for right and wrong and you always look out for your friends, especially the girls in your class – you always want to protect them. Its such a good quality to have and I know you’ll be an awesome big brother to your baby sister when she arrives and she’ll be just as lucky to have you as me and Daddy are.
Right now I’m guessing five doesn’t seem much different to four to you and you have just seen it as a time to get presents and a big party but I’m already noticing a change in you – you seem a little more grown up like you’ve realised you’re not going to be the baby anymore. You’ll always be my baby though – just look at you in the photo above – and you’ll always be my first baby.
I don’t really know why I’m writing this letter – its not like you’ll be able to read most of it unless Mummy reads it to you – but if one day you come across this letter, know that Mummy and Daddy love you very much and we’re so proud of you – and we still can’t believe you’re five, where has the time gone?
