Making Tooth Brushing More Fun With Playbrush

Item sent for purpose of review. All thoughts and opinions are our own.

Anyone with a young child will tell you that sometimes getting your child to brush their teeth can be a battle. Sometimes they are more than happy to do it and other times they steadfastly refuse and you almost have to pin them down to get their teeth clean. When asked if we would like to review a Playbrush, I was very keen to see just how it would work on Jack. Jack loved the idea of playing a game by brushing his teeth so we said yes, of course!

Playbrush attaches onto any manual toothbrush and enables children to control mobile games with their brushing movements. With challenges and rewards for the children plus detailed brushing feedback for the parent so you can see exactly what spots they are missing, the Playbrush is designed to make tooth brushing both entertaining and effective.

Setting up the Playbrush was super simple. Charging before first use with the USB cable, you then needed to insert the manual toothbrush like the instructions shower and turn on Bluetooth on your smartphone or tablet (minimum capabilities: Apple iPhone 4S/iPad 3 and IOS 8; Android 4.4 KitKat plus BLE capability; 4th Generation Kindle Fire HD (2014) and Fire OS 4). Then you just needed to browse the app store of your choice for a Playbrush game of your choice and then turn on the Playbrush, connect the brush with the phone via Bluetooth and then play/brush away.

Jack loved playing the game Utoothia  – with monsters approaching, he had to shoot them to get them. To turn his gun, he had to change where he was brushing. He really concentrated on getting rid of the monsters although the game took a bit of getting used to. Once the allotted time was up, he was keen to have another go and wasn’t too happy that he had to wait to brush his teeth again!

What I loved was that he felt rewarded by finding out how he’d done and how many points he had gathered. The screenshot above shows his first attempt – he was getting used to the game so I wasn’t expecting great results but I am really impressed that it shows how much attention he is paying to each part of his mouth – seems we definitely need to work on that outer right! This will be handy to keep an eye on to see where he needs some help with and which parts of tooth brushing he is fully capable of. He’s now constantly trying to beat his score everytime he brushes his teeth and we will be downloading some of the other Playbrush mobile games soon.
