I was recently contacted by a team working with Specsavers asking if I would like to visit for an eye test and choose some frames. Now I’m going to admit something now and don’t tell me off – I hadn’t been for an eye test for quite some time. Shocking, I know – as I am always going on at other people to get their eyes tested, its something I am very passionate about. We’ve even recently taken Jack for his first eye test to see how his eyes are (normal for a 4 year old, just a tiny bit of long-sightedness that should correct itself).
I visited my local Specsavers for my eye test – booking online was easy and when I arrived, the team were really friendly. My aunt has always recommended Specsavers to me but I am used to going to an independent opticians that my family go to – however I will not be going back to the independent opticians as Specsavers definitely have the better customer service!
Specsavers do things slightly different to what I am used to – you actually have your current glasses checked over and your eyes checked in a room before heading to the optometrist’s room with your optometrist. I had a graduate optometrist doing my eye test and he was really friendly – he did seem a little nervous about making sure he got everything right and checked with his supervisor. As I thought, I did need a change in glasses although I have not been given a whole prescription. As I’m pregnant, they can’t be sure if the change is pregnancy related and will disappear after childbirth or whether it is not pregnancy related at all. I was, however, given a slight prescription so that I can see better than what I was seeing.
Time to choose frames came and boy oh boy, do I find this the most difficult! I was keen to opt for slightly different frames than what I’ve had recently – and I wanted something colourful too. I finally opted for these RUTH glasses in purple for £69 and got the lenses thinned – my eyesight is pretty bad and if I didn’t have the lenses thinned, I would totally look like I had two milk bottle tops for lenses instead! The frames are plastic and the glasses come with standard single vision lenses (which I obviously upgraded to thinned), a scratch-resistant treatment, case and cloth.
I am very impressed with the frames and the lenses – altogether they came to £159 which is super impressive and shows why Specsavers are so well liked. When I’ve bought frames with thinned lenses before, I have paid out much much more for much less quality. I love the fact that the brand offers affordable prices for everyone – there are £25 frames right up to the designer ones with the £100+ price tags. I will definitely be heading back after I’ve had my little girl to see whether this change was permanent or not but I am certainly glad to be able to see clearly again and would definitely recommend the brand for both adult and children’s eye tests (they were great with Jack) and the adult hearing tests too which Steve took advantage of whilst we were there. They are a great addition to our high street and I really recommend them.
