Routine has been thrown out of the window over the summer holidays. We’ve been making memories and spending time with family and friends and the usual routine that we follow during school time just hasn’t applied.
However it starts again from today. Whilst most children either started last week or are starting back today, Jack actually isn’t starting Reception until Wednesday and even then it is a staggered start. He will be in until lunch on Wednesday and will be having lunch with me at school. On the Thursday he will only be there until 1.30pm and Friday will be his first full day. However we want to get the routine back in motion so its not too much of a shock come Wednesday.

Early morning wake ups and early bedtimes may be a bit of a shock to his system today but we desperately need to go back to normal ready for the adventures ‘big school’ has to bring. Jack is extremely excited about seeing his friends from nursery and having school dinners and although it is going to be emotional, I am excited for both him and myself. It is going to be a massive change and so strange for him to be away from me for all that time but I know he’ll love it.
Getting back into a routine hasn’t and won’t be easy though. Jack has loved having extra tablet time during the summer holidays – something that will no longer be happening – and so I’ve ran the battery out purposefully so it cannot be used. I know he will ask for a DVD before bed and probably kick up a fuss when I say no but these things need to be done. Its going to be just as difficult for me though – we’ve had a few lie ins over the holidays and I may have grown slightly accustomed to them. I’m not looking forward to the early morning wake ups anymore than Jack is!
But it is what it is and these few days mark the run up to a great adventure in his life – and I can’t wait!

It is my first proper day back at work today and it is a struggle, I miss my granny nap in an afternoon and I am probably going to have to have a disco nap x
Aw, how exciting! I hope he enjoys his adventures in big school and you manage to get back into your routine! βΊοΈ
I always find that whenever I go on holiday I struggle to get back into any form of routine as my routine is always bad at the best of times x
Ooo my eldest goes back next week however he is in preschool but he is sooo excited to go back! We have always stuck to a routine as it works best for us so hopefully you guys will get back into it quickly with no fuss π
Good luck with getting your routine back! I hope Jack loves Big School π
I am hoping Jack is enjoying his new routine and good luck for Friday!
Having the same feeling after a break by traveling. Exciting days ahead for him! π
Getting back into a routine can be such a shock to the system but it’s definitely worth it once the routine is in full swing. Hope Jack enjoys his first week at Reception! x
