My NaNoWriMo Update | Week 2

Oops.

I think that word gives a good enough impression of how well I am doing with NaNoWriMo so far this year. I managed to get out of my writing slump and get a few thousand words written before heading straight for another slump. I know what I want to say and do within the story – it is just getting my brain to get my fingers to do the work, I have a total block as soon as I sit down at my desk.

Myself and Em have been talking about a writing night one night in the month and finally decided on tonight. She is coming round and once Jack is in bed and Steve is out at darts, we are going to focus on writing. Having someone here to talk to and use as a soundboard for ideas will definitely be more helpful than not having her here – I’d only be talking to her online anyway and I need the distraction of the internet (unless for research) taken away from me.

My story has changed and developed so much since the beginning of November. It has gone from my first draft of a few chapters for a crime novel from before NaNoWriMo to a reworked prologue for a young adult novel and once I figured out totally where my storyline was going, crossed more into the realms of women’s fiction/romance/chick lit. I’m not too sure yet on the ending as I don’t want it to be too cliche but I don’t want to go against what needs to happen either. I suppose the book will show itself as I get further and further into the writing process.

If you are participating in NaNoWriMo, how are you getting on?
