Mauritius has long been on my list of places I would like to visit ever since I met a friend of my aunts way back in 2006. He was closer to my age than my aunt and we got on like a house on fire and he came from Mauritius, always telling me how beautiful it was and how I should visit. Now I have a family and its still on my list to go – but is it family friendly? I would say so and here are five reasons to visit Mauritius as a family – you can see some reasons for yourself here.
THERE IS SO MUCH TO DO
Whether you are choosing something more suited to the children such as visiting the tortoises, checking out dolphins, walking with giraffes or feeding lions or even if you’re attempting something else as a family such as ziplining, there is something for every member of the family. If those aren’t really your scene, perhaps the museums will tickle your fancy more.
THERE ARE EVENTS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR
Its always wise to check the events schedule as you may be lucky to visit during one of their many events and get to enjoy them for yourself whilst seeing how the locals celebrate. There are always multiple events going on and September seems very busy this year with the Maiden Cup and the International Fireworks Show among other events that month.
BEAUTIFUL SCENERY
Obviously this goes without saying but Mauritius is absolutely beautiful and why wouldn’t you want your children to enjoy that as well as you? The views are absolutely breathtaking and I wish I was standing on a beach in Mauritius right now.
YOU’RE NOT JUST STUCK TO STAYING ON LAND
There are so many activities to do but you don’t just get stuck on land for these – there are land based activities and nautical based activities meaning you are bound to find something that everyone will like on your holiday.

PARENTS CAN GET TREATED TOO
Perhaps my favourite reason for visiting Mauritius as a family? There’s plenty for you as parents to do if you need a little time to chill out. I would certainly let Steve have Jack for the day to go and explore whilst I visited the spa and wellness facilities available on the island and I know that Steve definitely wouldn’t be able to pass up playing golf one day. We spend so much time looking for things for our children to do, its important to spend some time relaxing ourselves on holiday!
Have you ever been to Mauritius? If you have, I am so jealous – what was your favourite thing to do whilst there?
