We all have dreams of our perfect home – how we want it to look, what the atmosphere will be like. A haven that we just don’t want to ever leave. Some people want a completely open plan house as they want an airy atmosphere, others want a tiny little cottage because they want to feel as cosy as possible.
I couldn’t tell you exactly how I would want my perfect home to feel – except for it to feel like home. Having grown up on the outskirts of a city in a tiny little village, I’ve had the best of both worlds. My village holds some very urban style homes but there are some quaint little houses and cottages that hold some sort of charm to them.
With a growing family, a small cottage is not enough – but something I would love no matter where I live is an open fireplace. My parents house had one of those electric fire things and then the cottage we moved into used to have a real fireplace but they boarded it up. The fireplace in this house has been boarded up too.
I want to be able to sit on the sofa in the winter, curled up under a blanket with a mug of hot chocolate just watching the firewood crackling away. Images like this tell me a story of a perfect cosy family home – and that is what I want. I know Steve is in agreement with me too – we have a few different things we want from a home but a fireplace is one of them, if it is possible round our area.
We’ve considered a number of different options in the past in order to achieve our perfect home – moving further out into the country so we can get the rustic charm we so crave, the space for the family, proper family kitchen and open fireplace – however it just wasn’t plausible right now. Of course, it may not be possible to get everything we want in our perfect home but if we can get most of them, I will be happy.
For now, I will just have to sit there and dream about my home – some gorgeous firewood in the fireplace, the smell as it crackles and burns, snuggling up on the sofa with my family. Hopefully it can become a reality one day.

My dad has a wood fire in his house and he loves it….It’s a lot of work but is so cosy in the winter…..I would love one. I don’t think our landlord would be happy with one though….hehehe

I have to admit I always wanted a proper fireplace in my home. We have a gas fireplace but it isn’t the same… no smell, no sounds…
