Saving For Our Own Home

Something I talk about often is us wanting to buy our own home. Whether we buy another property or eventually purchase this place when it inevitably goes on the market, we want to have our own place that we can truly call home, our roots, that we can settle down in and raise our family. We’ve got debts, sure – and we’re paying them off. We are also trying to save as much as we can for a home of our own which although isn’t going too well right now – I’m positive will get better over the next few months as Jack goes into nursery at the local infants school and I can work more.

What I know is that I want a designated office area (I am currently sat in the dining room as this is where my home office is based), at least three bedrooms. Oh, and barely any carpets. Strange request, I know – but it is something both I and Steve have discussed and carpets are not something we really want apart from upstairs in the bedrooms and on the landing. We both much prefer a non carpeted area for the living room and dining room – it is easier to keep clean, especially with children – and since we are thinking about getting pets too in the future, minimising any potential dirt has got to be a good thing!

Should we buy this house in the future, the first thing we would do is rip the carpet up and add in some solid wood flooring.

Steve and I talk at length about what we want from our very own house or what we would change if we were to purchase this one and the carpet thing is a biggie. The home office and number of bedrooms is also a must – I need somewhere to work and quietly and since we are thinking of expanding our family, two bedrooms just isn’t enough.

I’m a big fan of home interiors blogs and magazines and love reading blog posts about how people are doing up their homes. I just hope that, fingers, crossed, that can be me someday. Until then, I will carry on dreaming of what I want to do.
