TV is something we all watch and we watch plenty of it in our house. We have our favourite shows that we can’t wait to catch up with and then we have those shows that we are happy to put on in the background whilst doing other stuff.
However what I find great is how TV can connect us. TVL have launched a new campaign called ‘Moments That Connect Us’ and I think its great. I believe TV shows are wonderful for connecting people. Whether we are watching live sport on TV and cheering on our country or if we are catching up with the latest drama just so we can chat to our friends about it, there is no denying how easily TV brings people together.
I can think back to a few moments in my life defined by TV and wanted to share them with you today. What TV moments bring back awesome memories for you?
The Lionesses Winning The Euro Final
After years of disappointment with the men’s team, the whole country was on tenterhooks through this tournament. As a woman myself, it was awesome to see our ladies doing so well and we decided to have some friends and family round to watch the final. The energy and atmosphere was palpable and it was so awesome to be able to show my children how exciting these tournaments can be.
When the Lionesses won, it was such an incredible feeling and it was so nice to be able to share that with my friends and family who were there. The after effects of such a win cannot be disputed either; so many young girls got more interested in sport because of them; my daughter included. We watch a lot of sports in our house but this was the first instance of my kids being truly interested in finding out more about certain sports.
The Friends Finale
It was twenty years ago this year but I still remember watching that finale episode as if it was yesterday. It was aired in the UK the day before we were going on holiday and we were going really early the next day. My Dad chose to go to bed but my Mum and I stayed up to watch it together and it was such a special moment to share. The next day, my cousin (who was coming with us) and I just couldn’t stop talking about it and we heard many other people talking about it too!
The First Regeneration of New Who
If you’ve read my blog before, it is no secret that I am a Doctor Who fan. I fell hard into the fandom when it was revived and loved Christopher Eccleston so was a bit dubious about David Tennant taking over the role. I hadn’t been a fan of his up until then and I didn’t want to see Eccleston go but the whole regeneration was done so well, it will stick in my mind forever. And, of course, I fell completely in love with David Tennant’s Doctor and will watch anything he is in now! I have also connected with so many people due to my love of Doctor Who.
The Masked Singer
I still remember exactly where I was when I watched the first episode of The Masked Singer. I was at home in my old house with my partner and the kids and my friend had popped round too. We saw the name of the show and thought we had to check it out. We watched it and thought it was such a bizarre concept but we were hooked straight away and spent the rest of the series trying to see who could get the most right. Every year now we will watch it either together or at the same time in our respective houses and discuss our theories. It is a show that really connects us, the kids love to get involved too and we look forward to it every year.

I must admit I do love my soaps. One TV moment I do remember is watching Live Aide all those years ago. I also loved Friends and loving that my daughter enjoys it as well
