Who should you invite to your wedding? Who could you invite to your wedding? Who would you invite to your wedding, if you had the final say? Why wouldn’t you have the final say?
These questions can spin us in circles and confuse us in no small amount. But many worry about just who they might invite to their wedding from time to time. The act of designing or searching for premium quality wedding invitations is the fun part, but just what names should you write within?
This is where we walk the fine line between obligation and desire. Between friendly feelings and tailoring our perfect wedding day. Let us start by saying that you and your spouse are free to invite whoever you wish to, and you should talk about this should you have disagreements. However, for those who feel as though they have to put up with trying family members, are told to invite someone by a parent or friend in your wedding planning party, you should know that you needn’t kowtow to anyone.
Here’s what a rational approach might look like. We hope that with this advice, we can settle your invite nerves:
Those Who Support You
While a wedding is never a place to ‘get even’ with others, it can be a place to heal and feel comforted in the arms of those you most appreciate. This means that inviting those who have been there and supported you through the challenges time in life should be a no-brainer, but they should also get your first priority. After all, plus one or plus two spots might be limited, and so it can be worthwhile to give someone who truly deserves it that privilege. Of course, all of the advice in this post should be given to your spouse as well, allowing you both to isolate the most important people to you.
Those Who Will Behave
It can sound quite silly to consider who will behave at your wedding when inviting adults, but we all know how a family can be. Additionally, an open bar in your wedding reception can always push things a little closer on the ‘worrying’ side of the spectrum, especially if certain members of your family or friendship group can get a little tense when imbibing. You may just wish to avoid this drama completely. It’s your wedding, after all. This means that inviting those who will behave is often your best and foremost port of call. Additionally, not everyone enjoys having children at their wedding. You may think this obscene, or you may understand why. It’s just important to think of what’s best for you, and to never feel apologetic for having certain requirements.
Remaining Equal
Remember, no matter what path you choose, it’s essential that if you have certain requirements, those requirements are also given to your spouse. It’s no good to be picky, a bridezilla, or to be dismissive. This is not advice given to limit or restrict, or to be harmful to other people. This means if you yourself wish to invite all of your extended family, you cannot hold restrictions on your spouse unless they agree to hold back certain invites. This can ensure things are fair.
With this advice, we hope you can tailor your invites to a much better and accurate degree.
