I don’t know about you but I have suffered with a bad back for quite a few years now and after having Jack, the frequency and level of pain increased too. I mainly now get the pain around the area where I had my epidural and it can be really uncomfortable to sit in one place for too long (always handy when I sit at a desk for my job!) or trying to sleep.
I’ve got three tips to enable you to have a comfortable nights sleep when a bad back just won’t stop bothering you.
1. Eliminate back pain as much as possible during the day
My back pain at night is always worse if I have been suffering throughout the day. Taking time to relax, ensuring your posture is correct and taking painkillers when the pain gets too much during the day should all help to ease the pain off a little for the night. I try to remember this as often as possible in order to ensure I am not in agony when I try to catch forty winks.
2. Get in and out of bed safely
Sometimes people just jump in and out of bed and let’s face it, that isn’t doing your back any good. Simple things like this can really make all of the difference. Don’t overstretch yourself or over exert yourself when doing something as simple as climbing in and out of bed. Make sure you do it safely!
3. Give your back the support it needs
Whether that is in the form of a strategically placed pillow, a specific sleeping position (I tend to sleep on my side with a pillow underneath), buying a new mattress or opting for anĀ adjustable bed, giving your back that little extra support will do you the world of good in the long run. Obviously you need to work out which option is the best for you, which is best suited to your needs personally and financially, but can you really put a price on your health when your bad back is causing you so much pain?
